GREENWOOD, S.C. — Police say that a nursing home resident put ammunition into a toaster oven, causing a small fire in their room.
At around 8:53pm on Nov. 28, Greenwood Police, Fire, and Emergency Services were called to Morningside Assisted Living Facility by a fire alarm and reports of possible gunshots.
Officers found and put out a small fire coming from a toaster oven in one of the residence’s rooms.
The resident was found unconscious and was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
According to officials, it is believed that the resident put multiple rounds of ammunition into the toaster where they discharged, causing employees to believe that there was a shooter near by.
No one else was hurt, and it seems the fire stayed in one room.
