CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Chick-Fil-A presented the YMCA of Greater Charlotte with a donation of over $40,000 to support the Y Readers program on Monday.
Through Chick-Fil-A’s Care For Our Kids promotion in September, Charlotte area restaurants were able to raise the money with more than 40 stores participating in the promotion.
The funds raised will support Y Readers, the YMCA’s literacy program for students in grades Pre K through 3rd grade who are reading below grade level.
YMCA officials say the program combines an innovative curriculum, fun learning environment, and a team of certified teachers and committed volunteers to reverse summer learning loss and close the achievement gap.
Officials say this past summer, Y Readers served 737 students (219 through in-person programming and 518 through virtual programming).
