CMPD: 2 Teens Charged In Spree Of Early Morning Car Break-Ins In North Charlotte


CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives say two teenagers were arrested and charged Tuesday morning after a spree of car break-ins in north Charlotte.

Police say 19-year-old Ezra Spearman and a 16-year-old broke into several cars around 5:30 a.m. on Shining Oak Lane.

Officers responded to the scene after a person reported seeing someone breaking into their car.

Police say that reporting person also said as they approached the people breaking into their car, they were assaulted.

Officers say the suspects broke into two more cars on Shining Oak Lane before being identified and apprehended by police.

Officers were then able to recover stolen property from the suspects, including a key fob, cash, and firearm accessories.

Following an interview with detectives, Spearman was taken into custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with three counts of Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny, Misdemeanor Larceny, and Resisting a Public Officer, according to a news release.

Police say the 16-year-old in this case was taken to a juvenile detention facility and charged with three counts of Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny, and Misdemeanor Larceny for his involvement.

The public is reminded to remove all valuables from their cars and to keep their doors locked at all times.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
