The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified the victim in a the fatal west Charlotte crash that happened Tuesday evening.
Officers responded to Wilkinson Boulevard around 7 p.m. after reports of a collision. Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the roadway with severe injuries near a damaged Chevrolet Impala.
Medic transported the pedestrian, identified as 67-year-old Thomas Allison, to Atrium Health Main with life-threatening injuries. Police said that the victim was later pronounced dead at Atrium Health Main due to the injuries he sustained from the crash.
The driver of the Chevy Impala remained on the scene. Through an initial investigation it was revealed that the driver of the Chevy Impala was traveling west on Wilkinson Boulevard in the left lane. Allison was walking in the roadway in a non-crosswalk area while in the vehicle’s lane of travel when he was struck by the right side of the Chevy Impala, according to detectives.
Impairment and speed are not suspected as contributing factors to this crash for the driver of the Chevy. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said impairment is suspected of the victim, Allison, pending toxicology results.
The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a vehicle crash in West Charlotte after at least one person was killed. Outbound Wilkinson Blvd between Alleghany Street and Mulberry Church Rd is expected to be closed for several hours, according to the Charlotte Fire Department and CMPD.
Few details have been released about the crash that happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
CMPD advises to take an alternate route until the road can be reopened.
