KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – An historic election night victory in Kannapolis.
The city has elected the first African-American woman to ever serve on city council.
Jeanne Dixon won one of three seats up for grabs on Tuesday night.
The focus of Dixon’s campaign is revitalization of areas outside downtown and affordable housing.
Dixon hopes to inspire others.
“I think that it is important for little girls, the little black and brown girls in our community, to see someone who looks more like them and say, ‘you know if she can do it, I can do this,’” she says.
