CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On today’s Pure Intentions Coffee Morning Brew segment we discuss the lack of windows in grocery stores.
Have you ever wondered why the grocery store doesn’t have many windows? And if they do, they’re typically only at the front of the store?
Readers Digest published a new article that explains the lack of natural light and how it keeps people shopping longer. Stores want to create a separate environment inside the store to minimize distractions. When there are fewer windows in the store, it allows the shopper’s focus to remain on the shopping experience and not the weather outside or the time of day.
Having more windows in stores decreases the space available to showcase products and has fewer entry points. Architects say retailers want to minimize entrances to avoid theft.
