After a beautiful close to the workweek, the good times keep on rolling into the weekend. High pressure continues its dominance over the Southeast, allowing for plentiful sunshine both Saturday and Sunday. While most of us should remain in the 60s and 70s through Sunday afternoon, a few spots south and east of the Metro may crack 80°. If we don’t reach the 80s this weekend, we almost certainly will by midweek. Some areas may end up closer to 90° Wednesday afternoon. Despite the swelling of temperatures into the upcoming workweek, humidity levels should remain comparably low.
With winds of 120 mph as of 11 AM Saturday, Hurricane Sam has become our fourth major storm of the season. Sam will further intensify as it slowly trudges towards the eastern Caribbean. Model trends continue to steer the system out to sea before it gets too close to the Leeward Islands, but the storm is still worth watching. For now, rip currents will be the main issue at our beaches by next weekend.
